The Open Beta of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will start today
The opening beta of FFXIV ARR will open at 2AM PST. Are you ready to obtain the ffxiv gil now? If you want to get the earlier access, make sure that you have fulfilled the following conditions.
Legacy Campaign members, Registered a Beta Test registration code by Tuesday, July 30, 2013 9:59 p.m. (PDT) / Wednesday, July 31, 2013 4:59 a.m. (GMT), Played Version 1.0 or Received a PlayStation 3 promotion code in the days before the start of Beta 4 testing.
The testing started with the servers being hammered by an overwhelming number of login attempts. According to the game’s official twitter account “well over 100,000″ users were expected to login at the same time, and indeed they did, bringing down the test forums first, and then putting the login servers under serious load.
If your server of choice is closed to character creation and you didn’t play the original Final Fantasy XIV, you may want to ease your wait by checking out the eight episodes of my The Story So Far column. They will give you a nice overview on what happened during the first game, including all the relevant cutscenes. Since the story of A Realm Reborn is a direct sequel, reading on what happened before will help you enjoy it better.
If you still need to download and update your PC client for tomorrow’s opening of the floodgates, you can find the installer here in order to prepare ahead of time. For the PS3 version you’ll have to wait for instructions that will presumably be provided when the beta registration site will reopen presumably tomorrow, since you need a code to download the client from the PSN.
